Inked and cut paper. Subject/Description
This series was born in West Africa, where I spent several years. It is linked to a need to immerse myself in African music. I pierce the paper, animated by the memory of a cadence that stimulates the gesture thus liberated. The gesture is like a seismograph: the hand accompanies the cora (African harp) sound and rhythmically pierces the black paper. Black signs (the paper) and white signs (the empty ones), signs that we don't know how to read.
The drawings-drilling and mental projection in exercise are inspired by traditional African music in a fluid deduction. More than a construction, it is a matter of making oneself available in a body-mind alliance, to a rhythmic dictation which discovers in the progression a still indeterminate. Archival Fund
